Water Treatment and Water Pollution - Week 6
Insert 3 powerful images that clearly show water pollution from around the different parts of our world. For each image, briefly mention which country it is associated to and another interesting fact about it ie. photographer, people in it, why you chose it.
1. This is a polluted river in Brazil. They tried to clean it before the Rio Olympics what they are putting in the sea.
2. This pipe is shooting out bad things that are bad for the ocean & I chose this because it shows what we are putting in the sea.
3. This shows a bird that has been diving for fish but instead of a fish it got a bunch of plastic stuck around his neck.

He is helping the ocean and the animal there in the ocean by cleaning it out and finding better ways to clean it.
|
He could get animals caught in the net they used to fish the rubbish out of the ocean so it could hurt the animals.
|
That a nineteen year old is able to do something like this and to stop the pollution and plastic from getting out into the sea and possibly kill loads of animals

Are there any other scientific or technological designs already operating to tackle the problem of pollution in oceans around the world?
No the only thing i could find was the ocean cleanup floating dam.
Could you design an even better design of a machine/technology that could solve the problem of pollution in ocean?Consider; manpower, manpower to run/operate the machine, if any fuel would be used to power it, carbon emissions and the speed of what it could do. Either write briefly or sketch a diagram of your proposed prototype.
Plastic in our ocean is a big problem…
An even bigger problem in our ocean is microbeads. An example of this; some face washes and exfoliants use the plastic microbeads to exfoliate dead skin cells rather than using natural products/materials. The beads then enter the stormwater drains which end up in rivers and go out to sea. Read this website and …
- Summarise in 3 sentences the main ideas of what you read. To build a floating dam around the coast of that area so it stops plastic from getting into the ocean so it does not pollute the sea and doesn’t kill the animals
- Offer a suggestion to the problem. To stop throwing rubbish and plastic into the sea and stop pipes leading to the sea.
- Design a powerful slogan to the companies that produce this product, (might be easier in google drawing or to complete this by hand and then insert it into this doc).
How is Water Treated?
Complete the mixing and matching activity to show how it is collected, screened, clumped, oxygen added, separated, filtered, chemicals added and sent to a reservoir
Sweden
This country is trying to tackle the problem of too much rubbish ending up in landfills. Watch the clip and read the website. What do you think of their strategy? Why have other countries not followed suit already? Are there any negatives you can think of?
MY THOUGHTS…
I thought that it is really cool that they use recycling and turn it into electricity & 2 tonnes of waste=1 tonne of electricity.
Aniela thinks it’s cool that they take other countries rubbish and turn it into electricity
They import english house waste.
When they burn the waste a tiny amount is polluting.
But in the long run they will be helping their country and other country with the rubbish
You and Fraser learn collaboratively with inquiry learning and this is high quality evidence of that. Be super proud of yourselves! Miss O'B
